An Estate fit for a founding father

Palladian architecture with a contemporary eye was the focus for Simmons & Co. to collaborate with renowned architect Barry Berkus of B3 Architects. Extensive discussions with the clients resulted in precise placement for furniture and personal belongings.

Historical authenticity referencing Thomas Jefferson's Monticello was applied to the details in the wainscoting, crown work, casings and cabinetry throughout this showcase home.

Putting together a kitchen capable of large dinner parties and the needs of an extended family at Thanksgiving without losing the intimacy of the actively retired couple was no accident. The client had rigorous requirements for her favorite appliances and their proximity. After that challenge the rest was easy! The second sink location allowed space for everyone to prepare meals and circulate without conflict. The treasured original Delft tile scene was found in an antique shop in Holland on one of the client's visits. Unable to remove it from their previous residence, we had it reproduced by NS Ceramics.

Simmons & Co. was honored to detail the display cabinets to feature the clients' lifetime of collections, corporate accomplishments and a record of their family's love and achievements.

While remaining true to history, the architectural forms reflect Barry Berkus' love of contemporary spaces. Museum quality display spaces highlight a lifetime of collectibles. The extensive collection of books along with a paperweight collection provides the client with a calm retreat from the corporate world. The sloped, contemporary ceiling and the traditional millwork details in the library became known on the job site as the collision of Thomas Jefferson and Barry Berkus.
